Artist Statement

I am a predominately self-taught artist who took some college level art classes for approximately two years. I've been drawing since the tender age of 8, a time when Art was a part of the curriculum in school. I find the art world much more interesting and rewarding when studying and honing my skills independently. I enjoy seeking

educational opportunities outside of the formal classroom in the form of art seminars, workshops, lectures, webinars, online courses and mentorship programs and the observance of surrounding nature. I love going to art shows, fairs, and gallery openings.

I am inspired by the colors in nature, colorful designer fabrics, fashion and beauty. Contemporary designs by African fashion designers as well as Contemporary African Artists are also a huge influence in my creative life.

I love collecting coffee table art books featuring the work of artists from all walks of life. I found in the long run that "just doing it" allows for much more experimentation on my part. And while I realize that there is nothing new under the sun and take great joy in the inspiration I receive from other artists whose work and technique I may follow, I strive to maintain my independence as an artist and a creator.
